The Story of the Iconic Three-Pointed star
We all know that the 3-pointed star is a symbol of luxury performance and craftsmanship. But do you know what it actually means? Let’s find out.
So let’s jump back in time and let’s go back to the late 1800s. Two pioneers named Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach were working in a small warehouse trying to create an engine that was small enough and light enough to be used in different means of transportation. And they did achieve that.
In 1884, they came up with an engine which is famously known as the grandfather clock because of the shape and the long flywheel at the bottom.

Daimler and Maybach build a test engine with a vertical cylinder, which is christened the “Grandfather Clock” due to its appearance.
And later on, they created a wooden chassis with two wheels on it and the motor right in the middle and creating the world’s first motorbike.

Installing the Grandfather Clock engine vertically in the wooden frame, Gottlieb Daimler essentially invents the motorcycle.
But that did not stop them. In summer of 1886, they actually took a carriage and put the motor on, trying to create the world’s first motor wagon, but they were too late. 16 miles away, another pioneer named Karl Benz had the first patent for the world’s first car, which he made in January of 1886. So even though both of these pioneers had the same vision, they didn’t even know that one existed at the time.

The world’s first automobile.
That did not stop Gottlieb Daimler. He took the same engine, he put it in a boat, hence making the motorboat. And he took the same engine in 1888 and he put it in an air balloon, which a lot of people consider it to be the world’s first airship. So he had the vision which he achieved, but later on due to sickness he had to retire.
But his legacy did not die. In 1909 when his both of sons had the responsibility to create the logo that would represents the new Mercedes brand, they actually looked back at the letter that their dad sent in 1872, and in that letter they saw the three-pointed star which stands for land, air and water.
